I Finally Joined Swagbucks and Won on my Second Search!

I let procrastination get the best of me for months and kept putting off joining Swagbucks.  I finally signed up for this program this morning and I was surprised to see that I had won a Swagbuck on my second search! Now maybe it's not uncommon for them to award a swagbuck so quickly to a new member but I'm feeling pretty lucky right now!  I've been reading about this site on many other blogs and forums and kept it in the back of mind with the intentions of joining but just never got around to it until today. Now I feel like I've been missing out on a lot of fun! Just think of all the Swagbucks I could have earned by now.  Sorry Santa....hopefully by this time next year I'll be able to fill your sack with lots of goodies from Swagbucks!
Here's how it works:

You sign up at Swagbucks (FREE, of course!)  (They start you off with 3 swagbucks as a signup bonus.) Then download the TOOLBAR where you can perform searches and a variety of other tasks, like shopping through the Swagbucks store, referring your friends, etc. The search results come from Google and ASK.com. After entering your keywords into the search box of the toolbar you may be rewarded with a Swagbuck like I was on my second search.  I won "1" Swagbuck but they do give away larger denominations as well.  This may not happen so fast for everyone so be patient and remember to use the Swagbucks Toolbar whenever you need to perform a search.  They also have widgets that you can add to your facebook page to invite your friends to join.

If you're already a member please comment on how this has been working for you. Do you have any exciting wins or have you been able to cash in your Swagbucks for any awesome prizes, gift cards, etc?

I'll post about my progress and experiences with this site in the future. If you'd like to join me in my Swagbucks experiment then don't be a procrastinater like me....  Just Do It Now!!  (I really need to start taking my own advice : ) )

Quick Update on My eHow Account

After several very slow months of earnings with eHow I finally qualified for a paypal payment. eHow also performed another article sweep and I lost 2 articles this time. They weren't earning much anyway so I don't feel as affected as I did when they axed my largest earner a few months back. To read more about the goings on at eHow jump on over to my other blog eHow Articles by Bestmommy. The eHow community remains supportive and encouraging as ever and is one of the reasons I continue to post and spend time on the site. Happy Halloween!! Any costume ideas yet?

Do You eHow? Introducing My New Blog about Writing eHow Articles

I started a new blog to document the articles I've published on eHow and to talk about my experiences and hopefully create some more traffic to everyone's eHow articles.

If you are an eHow writer I would love to add you to my list of eHow friends. Just send me a friend request through the eHow site and then go back to my eHow blog and leave a comment and/or follow the blog. When I see that you've been there I'll link your eHow profile in the left sidebar under "Get to Know My eHow Friends."

Also, if you have a blog that specifically deals with eHow send me the link and I'll post that too under "Noteworthy eHow Themed Sites" in the sidebar of the blog. Hope to see you at eHow Articles by bestmommy!

For those of you that are unfamiliar with eHow but would like to learn more you can view my profile and eHow articles here and then browse around the site. Who Likes Triple Coupons?

For those of you that shop Harris Teeter...in case you haven't heard, HT is running another TRIPLE COUPON special until 9/22. They will triple up to .99 coupons and you can use 20 of those per day. I got several items for free yesterday and many more for pocket change after the triple coupons were deducted. They even tripled the ones that said "Do not Double or Triple." I stocked up on snack bars, cereal and yogurt. Check their website for the weekly VIC sales and combine with coupons you've got on hand to get the most out of this sale. You can also print more coupons at Coupon Surfer right now or in the future when these saving opportunities come up. Coupon surfer is free to join and they will send you an email whenever they add new coupons so you will always be prepared for those double and triple coupons specials at your local grocery store. Browse the list of new coupons or search for specific products and just select and print what you need. Much easier and faster than clipping the sales circular in the Sunday papers. Join Me on Infobarrel and Make Money with Google Adsense

I really like the idea of posting content to other sites that pay for page views and/or adsense clicks. One that I've been experimenting with is finally starting to pay off. I've submitted a few articles to infobarrel over the past 2 months and so far I'm quite pleased with the results. They've generated over $11 so far in my Adsense account which will hopefully keep growing as the articles get more exposure. Infobarrel shares 75% of the ad revenue with the author and also pays 2% on your referrals ad revenue. Meaning, if you have writers signup through your link you will share in their success as well. This looks very promising and I plan on submitting more content and hopefully creating some decent passive income. Please check it out for yourself to see if this is something you'd like to do to increase your online income. Of course, it's FREE to signup, NO Financial Risk. If you signup through my link let me know and I'll do my best to help with any questions you may have. Follow me to Infobarrel!

How I Got $100 in Restaurant GC's for $6.80!!

Good Morning!!

Just wanted to share an amazing deal with everyone. Dinners out can be quite expensive but we all need a break from cooking and the cleanup that comes afterwards, so here's how I make dining out affordable and fun for our family!

You might have already read my posts about Ebates, the site that gives you cash back on purchases you make online. In case you haven't signed up yet go here EBATES now and do that first. Then go back to Ebates, login and search for Restaurants.com in their list of stores. When you find it click on it and you should see that Ebates is tracking your visit and will pay you 15% cash back on purchases made at Restaurant.com.

Search for restaurants near your zipcode and see what comes up. Pick one or several if you'd like to stock up on CHEAP Gift Certificates. Be sure to read the fine print under each offer as most will have a minimum purchase requirement to use the GC. Proceed to checkout and use this code TASTE before you pay for your order. The code TASTE will give you 80% off the price of the gift certificate. For example, a $25 gift certificate normally sells for $10 on Restaurant.com, which is already a great deal. When you use the Coupon Code TASTE you only pay $2 for that $25 GC. On top of that, you will be getting 15% back on your total order by shopping through Ebates.

Here's how it worked out for me. I just purchased 4 X $25 GC's for our favorite Mexican restaurant. The minimum purchase requirement to use the GC at the restaurant was $50 which is no problem to reach for my family of 6.
I used the TASTE code which brought the total cost down from $40 to $8. Then in a few days I will see another 15% of the $8 (which is $1.20) credited back into my Ebates account. So $100 worth of restaurant GC's have only cost me $6.80!! Now I can look forward to 4 dinners out at a great savings!
**NOTE** The 80% off coupon code expires 8/31/09. They do run special discounts quite frequently but 80% off is the best I've seen so far.

Whenever I intend to make an online purchase I always start at ebates where I find awesome deals, coupons, free shipping and best of all CASH BACK rebates on my purchases! You must sign in to ebates and then click through to the merchant you want to purchase from so they can track your purchases and credit your account with the proper rebate amount. PKD-Polycystic Kidney Disease Walk and Awareness

This is off topic compared to my usual blog posts so I hope you forgive me for going in a different direction this time....

I wanted to bring attention to a disease that, before I met my husband, I never knew existed. After we had dated for a few months and I was introduced to his extended family I learned about the disease that afflicted his Uncle Johnny or "Uncle Bop" as he is lovingly called by close family and friends. (Apparently, Johnny was a very active kid who "bopped" around excitedly when he talked to others and the nickname stuck.) He's still a very active social guy who loves to have a good time, laughing and joking every chance he gets. He's been blessed by a successful organ transplant made possible by a talented team of surgeons and his very generous and caring sister, Maureen, or "Aunt Mo," who donated her kidney to save his life. Now Uncle Bop's daughter Renee, who is a dedicated nurse, wife and mother to 2 young boys is being afflicted by PKD and has also revealed to us that her youngest son has inherited the gene from her. Our hearts are breaking. The following is an email sent out by the brave and fearless Renee. If you care to donate to the fundraising efforts we would be extremely grateful. But, more importantly, since so many of us are in the dark about PKD despite the fact that it affects numerous people, I wanted to write about it here and hopefully create some awareness since it doesn't get the funding or publicity it needs. Please read Renee's email just below my signature for more details on the disease. Thanks so much for your time.

I am walking this October 25th in the TriState Walk for PKD (Polycystic Kidney Disease).

For those of you unfamiliar with the disease here are some facts and statistics:
-PKD is a life-threatening genetic disease that causes fluid filled cysts to grow in both kidneys. Overtime these cysts grow causing the kidneys to increase dramatically in size. They can grow to be the size of a football and weigh as much as 38 pounds each.
-There are many symptoms and these cysts can also be present on the liver, spleen or pancreas.
-More than 60% of people with PKD will develop kidney failure and require dialysis or a transplant to live.
-It comes in 2 hereditary forms: ADPKD-Autosomal Dominant PKD; and ARPKD-Autosomal Recessive PKD.
-Both forms affect 600,000 Americans and ADPKD affects 12,500,000 people worldwide. That is 1/500 people worldwide. Both forms equally affect men women and children regardless of age race, geography or ethnic origin. And it DOES NOT SKIP A GENERATION.
-ARPKD is a rare form of PKD and affects 1/20,000 babies worldwide. Tragically, most often these babies do not survive longer than 1 month of age.
-PKD affects more people than Down Syndrome, Cystic Fibrosis, Muscular Dystrophy and Sickle Cell Anemia combined. Yet government funding for these diseases remains significantly higher than the funding for PKD.
-PKD costs the government more than $2 billions per year in Medicare and Medicaid costs for dialysis, transplantation and related treatments... that cost is sure to be on the rise. Despite the staggering costs of treatments, in 2007 the NIH only provided $32 million for PKD research.
For those of you who know me, you know that my father was diagnosed with PKD at around age 40. He received a transplant form his sister-Maureen. I am glad to say that he is still doing well and his 22nd anniversary will be this August. Thank you Aunt Maureen-AKA Aunt Kidney.
I have inherited ADPKD from my father and I have developed severe cystic liver disease that will likely require a liver transplant. There is a 50% chance that you will pass the gene on to each child you have…unfortunately, my son Ian has inherited the disease from me.
Please help me raise money to raise awareness on this disease. But most importantly, help me raise money for research to find a cure for this disease so that no one will have to suffer the affects of PKD.

Thank you for your support--every penny counts, whether it is $1 or $100.

Renee :-)

Visit my personal page http://www.pkdcure.org/renee.reilly to join the walk with me, or to donate to the cause. My team is The Reilly Renals.

Please pass this on to any of your friends if you think they would like to participate.--Thank You again :-)

I Got My First YouData Payment!

I just wanted to let everyone know that I received my first YouData paypal payment yesterday. They said they paid every Friday and I'm very pleased to say they have followed through as promised. Besides earning $2.40 I was exposed to some fun, new websites that I would not have known about otherwise. If you've ever been frustrated by other pay to click programs that make you wait until you reach a certain dollar amount to be able to cash out, than I highly recommend giving YouData a try. The more members they have the more advertisers will sign on with them and the more ads they will send us to view. It literally takes a few minutes to set up your YouData account and a few seconds to click and view an ad and see the money in your account. Just another little online tidbit to add to your portfolio of FREE OPPORTUNITIES! Every little bit helps. http://www.youdata.com/join/bestmommy4

Get Paid for Your Attention

I found something that I think you will like. The company's name is YouData (youdata.com). They are trying to convince consumers like us that we should be the ones controlling our own data and selling our own attention, not third parties like broadcasters, newspapers, and spammers. By creating a MeFile at YouData.com, I now control what ads I see and when I see them. Best part - I am selling my attention directly to interested advertisers, for real money. That's right, I get paid for giving them my attention. I can use the funds to buy music and video online, donate to charities, give to my favorite blogs and websites, or keep the change myself and do whatever I want with it.

It's real. They pay. You should check it out.

Click this link to sign up. My MeFile ID, bestmommy4, in the "Referral Code" will tell them I sent you.

I took the easy way out and decided to post the above script which is an email that you can send out to refer others to YouData.com.

Now, in my own words.....I think this is an awesome concept and a very simple way to earn some extra cash. It's also kind of fun the way they provide you with a list of ads to click geared toward your interests and you see and hear(a sweet little chime rings when you click an ad--music to my ears...) the money immediately jump into your account. I just signed up about 20 minutes ago and viewed some ads and made $1.46 while folding a load of laundry. They also pay a small amount on your referrals ad viewing. After you sign up, be sure to answer all of the profile questions under the "YourMefile" tab as this will provide you with more ads and more earning potential. Of course, YouData is free to join!!

Alternative to Ehow? Evaluating InfoBarrel

Continuing saga from previous post.....So when I got the news of my articles (including my highest earner-GRRR!!)being deleted on ehow I was a little miffed. Okay, I was more like, "What the @#%&!!" Anyway after reading some posts in their forums from other writers who had been through an article sweep before, I settled down and told myself it would be okay and I should just consider this a learning experience and move on--sort of like the way I felt when my 401K shriveled up. There was nothing I could have done in hindsight but in time things will get better, so just have patience.

Just as we are told to do with our finances, we need to do the same with our writing efforts. Don't put all of your articles or content in one basket since that basket may tip over and leave you with a big mess! So, as I was digesting the wise words posted in the forums by a fellow ehow writer I decided to sign-up for another article writing site and see how it would compare to ehow.

I was referred to infobarrel by an ehow friend and have so far submitted only one article. It was a rewrite of my most profitable ehow article that got deleted. I had to do a rewrite because as mentioned in my previous post I had not saved any of my ehow articles to my computer. Let's not go there, again...see earlier post for details. Anyway, I'm still trying to navigate the infobarrel site and I must admit it seems cumbersome compared to ehow. I'm willing to give myself some time to get acclimated and post a few more articles. Infobarrel says they share 75% of the ad revenue with the writer and they also offer a referral system that I'm really excited about--you get 2% of your referrals ad revenue as well. I'm not sure what percentage ehow shares with us and I know they don't offer referral commissions so that aspect of infobarrel interests me as well.

If you'd like to join me in my infobarrel experiment you can sign-up here. http://www.infobarrel.com/signup.php?ref_id=1889

Ehow June Earnings and Article Deletions

Yesterday I received my second paypal payment from ehow. WooHoo, $17.04!! I know, you're probably thinking, wow....she can treat herself to lunch or maybe a half tank of gas, right? LOL!! Anyway, I know it's not much but it's FREE MONEY that I created with a little time and brainstorming and I'm definitely proud of that! Any other ehowers out there will understand. For those of you who are wondering what ehow is just click the title of this post to check it out.
The grand total of $17.04 consisted of a carryover amount of $3.06 from May and $13.98 earned in June. (ehow's minimum payout is $10, therefore I did not qualify for May's payment until now) So far to date I have been paid $29.26 from my ehow articles.
I have also earned $.89 so far this month (July 7th).

On a sour note, a few days ago I was notified that 4 of my ehow articles were deleted by the ehow staff. Apparently, I was in violation of one of their rules, however they could not tell me specifically what each article's violation was.
They did say that they are working on being more specific with future article sweeps. I understand they want to keep the site clean and weed out articles that are poorly written so I'm all for keeping content standards up to par, but I do believe my writing was generally coherent and basically logical with no spelling errors. I am very disappointed by the fact that my most profitable article was one of the casualties. So now ehow and I have lost a great income stream. Go figure the logic in deleting that article. So I had 16 articles published and now I'm down to 12 after the sweep. And to top if off, I realized I was not prepared to face my first article sweep since I had not saved my work anywhere else. DUUUHHH!!
Note to self: "Always save your work--copy your articles to a word document so you can go back and post them somewhere else if ehow doesn't want them."

All in all, ehow is still in my good graces. I'm looking forward to writing more and reading and commenting on others articles. The community is very supportive of each other and has given me many great ideas and advice on writing and earning income with my articles and other online activities. I did, however, have a moment of spiteful thoughts when I discovered my articles were gone so I'll tell you how I've decided to deal with my frustration in my next post.

How an Affiliate Program Helped Me Plan a 50th Wedding Anniversary Party!

I've been so busy the past few months with a huge family project and haven't been spending much time updating my blog. But since part of the project ties in with one of my online income streams I wanted to share it here.

My husband and I, along with my brother-in-law and sister-in-law have been planning and organizing a 50th Surprise Anniversary Party for my in-laws. As far as we know it's still a "surprise"....we don't think they have a clue...close relatives have sworn to us that no one has slipped and let the cat out of the bag---yet. We've still got a week and a half to go so anything can happen between now and then.

The party is going to be in another state close to my in-laws and the majority of their family and friends, which just happens to be 500 miles away from us. My husband's aunt and uncle had secretly taken his parents wedding album and other old albums from their house while they were out of town so we could put together a slide show of the past 50 years of their lives. Thank goodness, they haven't noticed the albums were missing or else they probably would have reported it to the police and then we'd surely have a lot of explaining to do! Afterall, what kind of thief steals family photos and leaves the jewelry and TV behind??

I handled most all of the arrangements online or over the phone from 500 miles away. Very scary, I know! I booked a catering hall and DJ over the internet and I'm praying that all of the arrangements I've made without actually seeing or meeting with anyone in person will turn out to be as spectacular as expected. One thing I do know for sure is that the party favors I ordered online are as wonderful, if not more so, than I expected them to be.

I came across this party favor website while I was searching for affiliate programs to sign-up for at shareasale.com. (Funny thing was, we hadn't even thought of favors at that point and this jolted my brain into gear and I thought, "Holy Mess! We need to order favors for this party!") Shareasale.com partners with many websites that pay you for promoting their links and banners on your blog or other places on the web. Some of them pay you per click, per lead, or per sale. Just go to shareasale.com and browse the many affiliates in their network to see which ones would fit with your blog and sign-up. Free of course!

Anyway, back to the party favors. I ordered some really pretty glass picture frame coasters, 2 per set in a clear box tied with a white ribbon. We are putting a picture of my husbands parents on their wedding day in 1959 in one coaster and a recent pic of them taken a few months ago in the other one. I also ordered some custom printed stickers with their names and anniversary date to be placed on the clear boxes. I'm so pleased with how they turned out and can breathe a sigh of relief that this aspect of the party project is finally done!

If you're in need of any type of party favors, wedding, engagement, christening, bar mitzvah, birthday, graduation, whatever, I highly recommend beau-coup.com. Great customer service, reasonable prices, great variety of items and fast shipping. Click the link that follows, sign-up for their newsletter and get a 10% discount on your first order. Check out beau-coup.com for someUnique Party Favors With a Personal Touch and remember you can also become an affiliate for them and many other retailers and websites by signing up at shareasale.com

Thanks to Melissa who posted this information on www.momsmakingmoneyonline.ning.com. The website is called mturk.com and it is run by Amazon and offers thousands of jobs that anyone can pick and choose from to make a little extra cash. The pay per job or HIT (stands for Human Intelligence Tasks) as they are called, can range from .01/each to several dollars or higher depending on how in depth and time consuming each HIT is. I registered on the site a few days ago and performed some easy HITS that paid from .01 to .10 each. So far my account has been credited with $1.43 with some payments outstanding (waiting to be approved by the submitter of the HIT) I'm not exactly jumping for joy, but what I do like about this site is that you can get paid by direct deposit or in Amazon gift certificates. So, I think I will visit mturk every now and then and perform some hits and just let the money accumulate in my account until the holidays roll around. Santa can always use a little help filling his sleigh with gifts from Amazon! Just click the title of this post and you can check it out for yourself. Yes, of course mturk is FREE!

Are You Utilizing Free Ad Sites?

Besides the well-known Craigslist, there are many other free classified sites where you can post ads to generate traffic to your website/blog. You can also use these sites to post affiliate links to the programs you are promoting. Just brainstorm about it for awhile and you're bound to come up with some ways to use the Free Classifieds to your advantage. Just be sure to read the fine print before posting, as some will bombard you with emails from other posters in return for letting you post.

One site I really like that doesn't send spam is backpage.com. You can post basic ads for free or choose to upgrade the ads for minimal cost. Just click the title of this post or go here http://www.backpage.com/23195088 and check out some Free Classified Ads. Post some of your own for FREE! Experiment with this idea and get some more traffic to your site or programs you are promoting. They can also set you up as an affiliate so you can post their links and banners on your blog and earn commission on any upgrades purchased by people you send to their site.

My local newspaper also has an online edition where you can post ads for free so be sure to check if yours does as well.

Good Luck in using Free Classifieds as another means of driving traffic to your site.

Update On My ehow Article Writing Efforts

I joined ehow.com in March 2009, published my first article on March 16th and added 5 more that month. During the month of April I published 3 articles. Today, May 5th I received my first payment from ehow. Now, the amount is nothing to brag about, but just knowing that I had found a free income producing opportunity online that really works makes me very excited to keep plugging away at writing those articles. So, my first "paycheck" of $12.22 is just a taste of what I hope will be a steady passive income that will increase with time and the effort I put into my future articles. Once an article is published it will stay on the site and continue to be viewed and generate income indefinitely, or as long as ehow is alive, I assume. It's so rewarding to know that the work I do today will continue to pay me in the future. So, if you're ready to tell the world "how to" do something on ehow, I say GO FOR IT and best of luck! The link below will take you to my ehow profile page where you can poke around and see how things work.

Buy Discounted Restaurant Gift Certificates!

Even when times are tough you should really try to treat your family to a dinner out once in awhile. You'll get a break from cooking and everyone will appreciate the change of scenery. Best of all, no cleanup afterwards! Woohooo!!

This website sells restaurant gift certificates at deep discounts and will periodically offer special coupon codes to purchase them even cheaper. Normally, you can buy a $25 gift certificate for $10 but I've purchased them as low as 80% off (yes, that would be $2 for a $25 certificate) when they run special promotions. Click here and enter your zipcode to see what restaurants participate in your area and enjoy an evening out with your family! http://www.restaurant.com/ReferAFriend.asp?ReferralID=23D353B3A303
